Whey Protein

Whey Protein

Whey protein is the liquid portion of milk derived from the cheese making process. It is high in protein, low in fat and contains virtually no lactose. Whey has been used to support nutritional health, promote lean body composition and enhance the immune system. A good quality whey powder will contain immunoglobulins and lactoferrin which both help to support a health immune system. Branched chain amino acids in whey can help promote a healthy weight and encourage muscle recovery from exercise.

Benefits of Whey Protein:

  • Immune support
  • Low calorie, high protein nutrition
  • Helps control appetite and cravings
  • Supports muscle recovery from sports activities
  • Supports weight loss and a healthy body weight
  • Helps prevent muscle loss in the elderly
  • Supports blood sugar regulation in type 2 diabetes

Dosage:

1-2 tablespoons 1-3 times a day in 8oz of liquid or soft food. 2 tablespoons contains 23g of protein.

Easy whey protein drink:

Mix 1-2 tablespoons of whey protein powder in 1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk. Shake or blend.

Quality Matters:

Whey protein is available at most health food stores and online. However quality  will vary and some whey protein powders may contain hormones, pesticides or melamine (a toxic by-product that has been found in some whey products). Some whey isolates may be processed in a way that destroys the health promoting immunoglobulins. Vital Nutrients whey powder is produced using New Zealand dairy cows that are grass fed and the milk is tested for antibiotic residues. The final product has been tested to be free of melamine, pesticide and herbicide residue and free of heavy metals.

Cautions, Toxicity and Drug Interactions:

If pregnant or nursing consult you physician before taking this product. If you have a dairy allergy avoid whey protein powders.
